Most computers these days are very fast and can do anything a normal person wants except to play the best games. What separates a gamer pc from that jalopy you might have is the video card and possibly a SSD (solid state hard drive) for some games and/or your Windows installation directory. The SSD is two or more times faster than a normal hard drive and will load things much quicker. You don't want a low end processor so go for an Intel i3, i5 or i7 or an AMD x4 (or higher like x6 etc.). A great guide for what parts you might look for in a PC is at PC Perspective. Click here for the "leaderboard" guide where they list parts they'd recommend for how much you want to spend. Their lowest end computer is probably fine for any but the most hard core gamer.
